An Gorta Mór / During the years / 1845 through 1850 / one and a half million / people died of starvation / and disease in Ireland / Another two million / were forced to emigrate / many dies in the coffin ships on the / way to America and / other places of refuge / While they suffered / the food they produced / in abundance was / forcibly taken and / shipped to England /

Arizonians who remember / the needless suffering / and deaths raise this / monument to honor / the victims of Ireland’s Great Hunger
